Los Angeles, CA - Two emotional points to help get Harry OUT:

1)   He changed his vote to vote against unemployment extensions when HR 4213 was rushed for another vote before the July 4th week vacation. (The unemployed are the taxpayers who should be helped out somewhat -rather than sending Mexico $ to thwart our border security efforts, for example...)

2)   Our wild horses and equines are being zeroed out and many are ending up being slaughtered.

The biggest act of wanton terror, and destruction came from good ole Harry, against one of America's greatest treasures: the Wild Equines.

He acted against our wild equine herds when he slipped in a rider to a bill 2005, called the Burns Amendment which is currently resulting in the zeroing out of the Mustangs. Our Mustangs are being removed. The BLM is zeroing out the herds. They are being taken to slaughter.

Our wild horses are being taken to slaughter in Mexico and Canada. Mexico piths a horse and dismembers them alive fully conscious. In Canada horses are stunned and then slaughtered still alive and very often fully conscious just as they were in the US. Horse advocates managed to stop horse slaughter here but there is a broad (false, very black) PR campaign to start up horse slaughter again in the US. Due to the cruelty of horse slaughter on our continent, Europe is beginning to refuse N. American shipments of horse meat and also due to the drugs we give our horses. Regarding horse slaughter, there is no safe, fast, quick and easy way to kill a horse other than shooting it at an angle downwards through the head so that the bullet also hits the heart. Of course those irresponsible, still are over breeding horses and irresponsible horse owners are happy to have the irresponsible and cruel horse slaughter out. Horse have the intelligence of about a 4-5 year old human and at times you swear they are way more intelligent than that. Their therapeutic value is well renown. This travesty must somehow be stopped.

We have good ole Harry to thank for the end of our wild herds unless something very effective can be done very soon.

I just looked up the 2005 legislation he proposed and got passed, and this Website lists out all of good ole Harry's wanton destruction on many fronts in our country. I can send you more links about advocacy for the wild horses if you wish. There are currently over 70,000 horses in BLM holding pens being fed at taxpayer cost of about $100,000/week. And there are now only about 40-50,000 if that left roaming free. There used to be over 2,000,000. Some think it is the cattle ranchers being greedy for more public lands for cattle grazing. That seems totally illogical as the wild horses use just a very small fraction of public lands-they have some designated to them by law (I guess laws are just for us common folk). There is some speculation about (foreign?) investment for solar and wind farms - but horses would -by instinct- stay away from those...

A bill introduced in 2005 by Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) in the U.S. Senate, with a companion introduced by Representatives John Porter (R-NV) and Shelley Berkley (D-NV) reduced minimum horse adoption fees by 80% to $25, eliminate the limit of four horses per adopter per year, and establish a one-year waiting period for buyers to receive titles to wild horses purchased through the Burns Amendment’s sales program.

Without a limitation on how many horses can be titled to an adopter/purchaser each year, the one-year limitation becomes meaningless because large operations will now be able to obtain very cheap horses in unlimited numbers, keep them for a year in large pastures and turn a handsome profit at the slaughterhouse after a year. The bill would also extend the Burns Amendment’s sale mandate to ALL “excess” wild horses, i.e. the 22,000 animals currently in government holding, giving the government a quick and dirty way to dispose of all rounded up horses. This new provision, dressed up by the Harry Reid as a nice solution to the Burns Amendment debacle, is yet another blow to the wild horse cause, with 22,000 horses now in jeopardy.
