Conservative Positions on Today's Compelling Issues
_______________________________________________________

Missile Defense
Governor Sarah Palin recently criticized President Obama for making cuts in missile defense programs.  "I think it's a sign of weakness to cut defense spending right now, especially particular projects and services like missile defense systems.  In Alaska, we're strategically located where we could intercept a missile coming from North Korea.  She expressed a concern that North Korea had recently launched a series of short-range missiles and tested an atomic bomb.  She said, "Alaska has the position and the equipment, if it's funded correctly, to intercept a missile."  Her reaction to proposals by the Obama Administration to cut missile defense, "I think it's nonsense.  I think it's a sign of weakness.  We need to be showing signs of strength with our national defense."   We agree with Governor Palin.  This is a critical mistake being made by President Obama.  Contact your representatives and register your opposition to this dangerous weakening of U.S. defense resolve.
Socialized Medicine

First it was the banks and financial institutions.  Then it was General Motors. Now get ready for Obamacare. President Obama is about to launch an all-out effort to place control of the entire health care system--including all private doctors, hospitals and insurance companies in the hands of the Federal government.  Health care accounts for 1/7 of the entire U.S. economy!  If you don't want your health care placed in the hands of bureaucrats and run like the department of motor vehicles or the post office, then action is needed now!

Contact your Member of Congress and your two United States Senators and tell them in no uncertain terms that you oppose any government takeover of the health care system.  If you don't want to have to wait in line, sometimes for years, as they do in Canada and Great Britain, for medical procedures crucial to your health and survival then you must make your voice heard!

Once the medical care of every American is in the hands of government bureaucrats, we will all be dependent on their decisions as to what is best for our health.  This is the ultimate dream of big government liberals.  Teddy Kennedy has spent his whole career campaigning for a national health care system and Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama all know that nothing will make the American people more beholden to big government than socialized government controlled medicine.

Supreme Court

Appointments to the Supreme Court are critically important to the future of the United States because this court gives opinions that are the highest law of the land.  Thus, all appointments should be made based upon objective, not subjective, factors.

All Americans, not just conservatives should be concerned about Obama's current nomination of Sotomayor for Justice of the Supreme Court. Why do the Democrats think it is imperative the Republicans not block her nomination? What is in it for them, to the point Senators Shumer and Mendendez are issuing stern warnings to Republicans up for reelection in 2010: Vote against Sonia Sotomayor at your own peril? The Democrats want total control over all of our lives, and an additional way to accomplish this is to have "left-leaning" judges appointed that will rule by their feelings and past experiences, and not the law.

That is not the role of a judge, as Justice Clarence Thomas stated in 1996 (exerpt from his speech) "In my mind, impartiality is the very essence of judging and of being a judge. A judge does not look to his or her sex or racial, social, or religious background when deciding a case. It is exactly these factors that a judge must push to one side in order to render a fair, reasoned judgment on the meaning of the law. In order to be a judge, a person must attempt to exorcise himself or herself of the passions, thoughts, and emotions that fill any frail human being. He must become almost pure, in the way that fire purifies metal, before he can decide a case. Otherwise, he is not a judge, but a legislator." We don't need more legislators in this country, we need judges that interpret the Constitution as it was written, not ones that try to rewrite it and make it a "living" instrument. The Republican politicians must not shut-up, and must stand-up for what they believe in and stop being intimidated by the Democrats!
