Ronald Reagan stated in 1975, "Raise a Banner of Bold Colors, Not Pale Pastels!"

Reagan's Words are Relevant Today

On March 1, 1975, in the wake of the disastrous post-Watergate election, Ronald Reagan stood before a disheartened Conservative Political Action Conference and proclaimed, "A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers."

Then, as now, there was a din of voices from the media and from "moderate" Republicans calling on the Party to abandon its conservative principles.

Reagan's Message

Here is what Ronald Reagan told the assembled delegates of CPAC that day:

"I am impatient with those Republicans who after the last election rushed into print saying, "We must broaden the base of our party” - when what they meant was to fuzz up and blur even more the differences between ourselves and our opponents.

Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?

Let our banner proclaim our belief in a free market as the greatest provider for the people.

Let us explore ways to ward off socialism, not by increasing government's coercive power, but by increasing participation by the people in the ownership of our industrial machine.

It is time to reassert our principles and raise them to full view. And if there are those who cannot subscribe to these principles, then let them go their way."

Five years later, Ronald Reagan was elected President of the United States.

Clutching Victory from Defeat

Once again, we have endured an electoral disaster that left the Republican Party wandering in the wilderness and wondering what we have to do to regain the trust and support of the American people.

Once again, the defeat came as a result of abandoning our conservative ideals.  So, what is the solution?

The answer is clear. Heed the words of Ronald Reagan: Raise a banner of bold colors, not pale pastels.  Do not compromise our principles in the mistaken belief that we will be rewarded at the ballot box. On the contrary, that would put the Republican Party on the road to oblivion.

About RMC PAC Activities...

The Republican Majority Campaign PAC began in 2008 to fight for the restoration of the party's fundamental principles.

We believe that electing candidates who share the values and principles that made our Party great is the only path to redemption for the COP.

Ronald Reagan said we must lead by example and raise a banner of "bold colors, not pale pastels".

Tens of thousands of rank and file Republicans flocked to our banner of bold colors and contributed over $4 Million to our efforts in 2008 – a testament to the hunger for new leadership in the Republican Party. Over eighty percent of those funds were devoted to independent expenditures and contributions to conservative candidates.

Since 2004, the Democrats have moved at breakneck speed to build an impressive array of well-funded, technically advanced organizations. This effort has been successful beyond their wildest dreams.

If we are to win back Congress in 2010, we must be smarter, more efficient and more dedicated than our opponents. Above all, we must demonstrate to the American people that we have re-dedicated our Party to our core conservative principles and that we can be trusted to govern based upon those principals.

What can you do to help?

First, as everyone knows, "money is the mother's milk of politics."  Campaigns in the United States are very expensive.  President Obama raised more than $745 million while John McCain raised more than $365 million.  For the first time in USA history, presidential candidates raised (and spent) more than $1 billion!

Thus, contribute what you can to RMC PAC. You know that your contribution will be wisely spent.

Also, please consider volunteering to help RMC PAC, or a local candidate.  Volunteers provide a wide range of services to promote GOP candidates and conservative ideals such as:

  1. Make telephone calls to officials
  2. Host parties & meetings
  3. Join online communities to promote conservative ideals
  4. Send letters and emails
  5. Help contributors decide to support RMC.
  6. Assist with government compliance requirements by helping to prepare campaign reports.
  7. After growing with RMC, helping in area management activities
